Project Galgo

Spanish Greyhound, Podenco and other Sighthound Rescue

Spanish Greyhounds (known as Galgos) and Podencos often suffer terrible lives at the hands of their hunting owners.

It has been said that the dog is man’s best friend. If this is true, then the Galgos of Spain have been viciously betrayed. There is a very cruel and barbaric custom amongst many Spanish hunters, or “Galgueros,” that destroys more than 50,000 Galgos every year.

Galgos and Podencos are used for hunting, but most are used for only one season and then discarded. If they hunt poorly, they are tortured as retribution for the shame they reflected upon their owners.

Bruma’s Memorial Fund

Bruma’s story hit us all hard and it still haunts me and I daresay, always will. With Bruma’s memory in mind, Galgos en Familia named a Galga who they rescued, after her. This Galga was very frightened and had clearly suffered at the hands of her Galguero. We invite you to make a donation to either Project Galgo or Galgos en Familia, Or Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert in memory of these two beautiful souls.

fostering

Dog Fostering is essential to Project Galgo and we are always seeking foster homes for our dogs. The more foster homes we have, the more dogs we can help. Fostering is a very special part of all our dog’s journey’s onto the next chapter of their lives. Fostering is the difference between life and death. Even if you want to foster as just a one off – this is still such a big help to the dogs.
