Dog name: Martinica Nicknames: Nica
History: Brought into Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert, Seville on 16/04/2025 with a limp and deformity of her left ankle. A follow up x-ray revealed an old humerus fracture where the bone had shattered. Appeared to have been caused by gunshot.

Breed: Podenca
Colour: Caramel and white
DOB: 15/04/24
Height: 49cm

Health condition: Front left leg amputated
Character: Martinica has grown in confidence since her arrival. She loves walks and off lead time in an enclosed field and is at her happiest with other dogs of similar size and energy. In the home, she is a complete sofa hound. Gentle and loving, she just wants to lie next to you and chill. She’s completely clean in the house and not destructive but she does like stealing your slippers and taking them to bed with her to cuddle.
Likes: Ear scritches, walks, her cuddly toys, the sofa, other dogs.
Dislikes: Sudden noises.
Special talents: catching flies. Don’t be fooled by the three legs. Martinica is strong, fast and smart.
Specific needs: Someone who understands her past trauma means she can be triggered by loud noises and unfamiliar people or situations. She needs support in new situations but is easily reassured by someone she trusts. She is still working on walking on a lead and does pull, especially around squirrels. She is responding well to training and will need someone to continue this with her.
Cat workable: unable to say
How long they can be left for: 2-3 hours
Dream home: A peaceful home without too much noise and supported introductions to visitors. Martinica could live with a confident dog but she could also be the only dog provided she has doggy friends to play with. She doesn’t need to be in the countryside but doesn’t like loud traffic noises so needs a quiet street if she is in a town. She needs a secure garden and a comfy sofa!
Current area: Cardiff
