Dog name: Gaviota Nicknames: Gavi
History: Galguero hand-in to SOS Galgos, Barcelona. Arrived very scared
UK arrival date: 20/06/2026
Breed: Galga
Colour: Brindle with white
DOB: 24/05/2022
Height: TBC
Weight: TBC
Neutered: Yes
Mediterranean disease: Clear
Health condition: Good. No current health concerns reported. She had a little “happy tail” during her first week in foster, which now seems to have resolved. She is absolutely fine with handling and doesn’t mind being brushed or having her paws, mouth or ears touched.
Character: Easy, loving and happy. Gaviota has blossomed into a really affectionate, contented girl. She loves attention and will come over to actively demand a stroke or cuddle, and when she’s particularly happy she rubs herself around on the sofa! She has become much more relaxed and independent as she has settled, and no longer feels the need to follow her foster carers around as much. She is gentle and easy-going, settles extremely well and could potentially make a lovely first-time dog.
Likes: Cuddles, strokes and plenty of affection; the sofa is now definitely her favourite place to relax. She enjoys her food, natural treats and chews, sniffing around the garden and investigating the toy box – preferably by taking absolutely everything out of it! After a walk she is quite happy to spend the rest of the day snoozing, but she is equally content having a quieter day pottering in and out of the garden.
Dislikes: Loud vehicles can make her unsure, although she continues walking rather than panicking. She can also be nervous about things moving above her head – for example, a kitchen cupboard opening above her – but her curiosity is starting to win out and she will stay to see what is happening. Very busy environments are not where she feels most confident, although she copes by calmly observing her surroundings.
Special talents: Emptying the toy box! She is also wonderfully adaptable – happy to enjoy a good walk or equally content with a quiet day at home.
Specific needs: Gaviota would benefit from a kind, calm home that continues to nurture the confidence she has gained. She walks beautifully on the lead and has successfully been around the seafront and busy town/city environments, taking them in her stride. She simply ignores other dogs when passing them.
Cat workable: No
How long they can be left for: 4 hours with the company of other dogs, during which she slept the whole time. She has shown no destructive behaviour when left.
Current area: Arundel, West Sussex

Adopting or fostering a dog is hugely enjoyable and rewarding, but it’s also a lot of work, and it’s a big decision. Below are the 3 steps involved in the process of either adoption or fostering.
Step 1 is to learn what’s involved; about Project Galgo, about adoption and about fostering.
Step 2 is to contact us for more information and we’ll discuss everything with you.
Step 3 (the final step) is to fill out either the adoption or fostering forms and officially start the process. These forms are in depth, and may take you some time to fill out. It is recommended you do this on a laptop or desktop computer. It is required that you fill out every field, the forms will not submit if questions are skipped.
