Character: Mori is a wonderfully sweet, affectionate and inquisitive girl who is really beginning to blossom in foster. She can be cautious initially, but once she feels safe she is incredibly loving and keen to form a bond with her people. She actively seeks out affection, nudging for strokes (and then coming back for more!), gives wonderfully enthusiastic, waggy greetings and has even started joining her foster family on the sofa. She is gaining confidence all the time and beginning to show more of her playful side. 

Likes: Being close to her people, lots of gentle strokes, her walks, food and treats, snoozing somewhere comfortable, spending time with another dog and running in secure fields. Mori absolutely loves the freedom of a secure field, where her foster carer describes her running in a relaxed, joyful and carefree way. She is also beginning to show an interest in soft squeaky toys and enjoys enrichment including LickiMats and Kongs. 

Dislikes: Mori can still be wary of sudden movements and noises, unfamiliar or large objects being lifted, loud vehicles and busy or unpredictable situations. She can also be cautious around loud male voices and groups of people. Her usual response is to move away or seek reassurance from her person rather than confront what is worrying her. She is making really good progress with gradual exposure and is becoming increasingly confident as she learns that she is safe.

Special talents: Mori walks beautifully on the lead and is an exceptionally polite walking companion. She likes staying close to her person and is generally neutral, polite or slightly wary when meeting dogs and people out and about. She has coped increasingly well with traffic and has shown no particular prey-driven interest in small dogs. She travels well in the car, generally hopping in happily, settling quickly and getting out without any problems. She is also doing very well with her housetraining, although a new home should be prepared to reinforce this while she settles into another new environment. 

Specific needs: Mori would thrive in a kind, empathetic, patient and gentle home with a fairly calm and consistent routine. She continues to need time and reassurance to build her confidence around unfamiliar experiences. A confident resident dog would be beneficial, particularly during her initial transition, as Mori has taken a lot of reassurance from her foster sister and follows her lead both at home and when exploring new places. However, she is also very affectionate and people-focused once she feels safe, so her foster carer feels that a kind and gentle human presence may be sufficient in the longer term. A quieter household would suit her well, and she could potentially live with older children. 

Cat workable: Not yet fully assessed. Mori has shown some interest in cats but considerably less prey drive than her foster family’s resident greyhound. Her foster carer is continuing to assess this. 

How long they can be left for: Mori has now been left at home with the resident greyhound several times for approximately two hours and has coped very well, settling calmly. She has not yet been left completely on her own, so this would need to be introduced gradually.
