History: Orion is a one-year-old greyhound who was brought to a veterinary clinic by his owner in a terrible condition. His penis was completely necrotic and rotten, preventing him from urinating, so he had to undergo emergency surgery. ⁣ His penis has been amputated and he has undergone a urethrostomy, a procedure in which a small opening has been created in the skin connecting to the urinary tract, allowing him to urinate without any problems. ⁣

Character: Odie is a clever, cheeky and inquisitive goofball and he lets you know all these things really quickly! He will try most things 3 times and will make his decision on whether he is allowed to do something or not after that! He is still a pup and will investigate everything he can with his nose, mouth and paws, in that order. He has a lovely nature and enjoys cuddling up, scritches and learning. He knows he’s a “good boy”; we get a head tilt and his ears prick up at those words although his ears are half labrador (floppy on the top half) and his wiggle is pretty cute too. When he wants something, or feels something is not quite right (like the door being shut, his tummy is empty… you know… the usual Galgo type complaints), he will tell you about it by talking to you. It’s such an expressive voice but he’s not needlessly noisy and once you learn his language it all makes sense. He likes people and will actively seek strokes and kisses from them (particularly new ones). He isn’t overly demanding in the house, and is learning to enjoy and appreciate his own time and space. He will settle on a mat in a pub if he can nom on a Kong or something, and isn’t
bothered by people walking past; if they have treats he will know and request a donation!

Likes: Playing – with other dogs if he can, with a human, or even on his own. Toys seem to be enjoyed but also optional. Running around for the sheer joy of it. Water from a watering can or water butt! Chasing moths or butterflies. Pears (we blame Nemo, his foster Galgo brother).

Dislikes: He’s generally not a fan of being left if he hasn’t got a distraction, although more recently we have left the house without warning, no Kong has been provided, and he’s remained on his bed for 30 mins without issue. We are making progress and if we are in the house have no issues with him being in different rooms; he sleeps downstairs and we can shower or be upstairs without him and he is absolutely fine.

Special talents: Biting the fingernails or toenails of the humans! Taking joy from just running around in the garden on his own. Learning from other dogs – like picking pears!!!

Specific needs: A family that understands that he needs consistency and care, and that all this shows him the love and attention he needs at the moment. He needs to be taught and allowed to learn to relax in his own company, or with other dogs, without human intervention.

Cat workable: Not tested since last home, but possibly depending on the cat
