Mediterranean disease: Leishmaniasis+, treated and very stable. As of 28/08/2026, he is having a six-month break from Allopurinol. He currently has Impromune every morning with breakfast.

Health condition: Generally good. Pascal is active, keeps himself clean and appears well hydrated. His foster carers have noticed that he shakes his head and occasionally scratches at his ears and yelps; his ears can look a little red and may be sore. His left eye is cloudy and his foster carers believe his vision may be altered, as he can occasionally become unsure around doorways or show reduced spatial awareness.

Character: Affectionate, gentle, food-orientated, curious and people-focused. Pascal loves being close to his humans and started asking his foster carers for strokes and nudging them with his nose within his first day. He can still be jumpy and reticent when something worries him, particularly around sudden movements, but he settles beautifully when the household settles. He is very capable of taking himself off to a quiet space when he wants some downtime. Pascal is respectful and easy-going with other dogs. He shares beds and close spaces happily with his foster sister and has shown some little play bows. At a secure field, they were happy exploring independently as well as prancing around together.

Likes: Food and treats! Pascal has an excellent appetite and is very treat motivated, although he takes treats very gently. He loves cheese and has enjoyed blueberries, chopped carrot and coconut oil with his meals – but banana definitely isn’t for himHe loves chews and likes to take them away to enjoy peacefully, with a bedtime chew forming part of his evening routine. He enjoys sniffing and exploring, secure-field trips, sleeping, cuddling up with his humans and generally knowing what his people are doing. He is happiest when he can be near them and will often follow household activity before settling down once they do.

Dislikes: Sudden loud noises and unexpected movements. He can become worried if someone reaches over him and may cower or back away. Dropped objects and other sudden noises can make him jump and occasionally leave the room. He isn’t keen on the vacuum cleaner and can also be unsure when cars pass close by. He disliked a long line touching the backs of his legs.

Special talents: Getting up onto the narrow window sill to watch the world – and excited breakfast dancing!

Specific needs: Pascal needs gentle, patient handling and people who will allow him to build confidence at his own pace. Sudden movements, reaching over him or making him feel as though he may be grabbed can worry him. At times he appears conflicted between wanting a treat or food and feeling unsure about approaching, so calm, predictable interactions are important. On lead, he is actually a polite walker: he enjoys sniffing, doesn’t tend to pull ahead and usually walks nicely on the left. He can still be nervous of people and aspects of the environment, including passing cars, although he has already shown encouraging progress. He happily walked into a country park beside a busy A-road and was more interested in exploring the smells, and he was able to settle on a blanket at a bustling farm café.

Cat workable: Yes – showing very encouraging behaviour in his foster home. Pascal has adapted well to living with a cat. After receiving a few warning swipes when he got too close during his first couple of days, he learned to be cautious and respectful. He now gives the cat space and ignores him even when they are both outside in the garden. His foster carers describe his prey drive so far as relatively low; he hasn’t attempted to chase their cat and hasn’t reacted to birds or squirrels they have encountered.

How long they can be left for: Previously reported as comfortable for up to 4 hours. In his current foster home he has so far been left for 45 minutes and coped perfectly: no barking or whining was observed on the pet camera and he appeared to settle. No destructive behaviour has been seen.
