Rayo

Rayo

Name: Rayo          Nicknames: Ray Ray

History: A Galguero hand-in to Buscan Dogs Familia, Seville, where he had been waiting for two years for his chance of a home.

UK arrival date: 16/07/2026

Breed: Galgo

Colour: White with brindle

DOB: 04/04/2020

Height: 66cm

Weight: 24.2kg

Neutered: Yes

Mediterranean disease: Leishmaniasis positive but very stable; otherwise clear

Health condition: Generally good. Rayo has a protruding rib which can occasionally cause him some discomfort and is due a veterinary check. He is otherwise doing well and is completely comfortable with handling, including brushing and having his paws, mouth and ears touched.

Character: Rayo is a happy, affectionate, inquisitive and well-balanced boy with a wonderfully independent streak. He loves his humans and enjoys affection, but he is equally comfortable doing his own thing and will sometimes choose to take himself off for some peace and quiet. He is confident in most situations and, if something does make him unsure, he generally takes a moment to process it before calmly moving on.

Likes: His people, affection, food (very much!), countryside walks, sniffing and exploring, secure-field zoomies and having a comfy sofa to himself. He isn’t particularly interested in toys but really enjoys food-based enrichment.

Dislikes: Not much phases Rayo, although he does value his own space and occasionally prefers to be left in peace. He can also be a little guarded around food, so this should be respected and sensibly managed.

Special talents: An excellent lead walker with a brilliant recall in a secure field. He knows both Rayo and Ray Ray and comes when called. He is also an expert sofa snoozer and has mastered the art of convincing you that he definitely hasn’t already been fed! Rayo must only be off lead in a securely enclosed area, as although his recall is good there, his foster carer reports that he will otherwise explore on his own terms.

Specific needs: Rayo is still prone to scent marking in the house, particularly when something new triggers his interest, so his adopter will need to continue working on this. He enjoys other dogs but doesn’t rely on them for confidence or companionship and could happily be an only dog. As he sometimes likes his own space, a home where this can be respected would suit him well; based on his current foster assessment, a home without children would be preferable.

Cat workable: Not tested

How long they can be left for: Around 4–5 hours. Rayo has coped well when left and has shown no destructive behaviour.

Current area: Ashford, Kent

Please use the form below to get in touch and ask about this adoption.

Adopting or fostering a dog is hugely enjoyable and rewarding, but it’s also a lot of work, and it’s a big decision. Below are the 3 steps involved in the process of either adoption or fostering.

Step 1 is to learn what’s involved; about Project Galgo, about adoption and about fostering.

Step 2 is to contact us for more information and we’ll discuss everything with you.

Step 3 (the final step) is to fill out either the adoption or fostering forms and officially start the process. These forms are in depth, and may take you some time to fill out. It is recommended you do this on a laptop or desktop computer. It is required that you fill out every field, the forms will not submit if questions are skipped.
